I have a girlie girl. Don’t get me wrong, she likes to play hard, climb trees, even get dirty; but she is a girlie girl down deep in her soul. She loves to dress up, style her hair, style my hair, create pretty flower arrangements, and make leaf crowns etc… She’s fun for me.
I absolutely love the crowns made from real leaves, but we wanted to make one that she could wear the entire fall season.
We were going to a fall party and she wanted to be an Autumn Indian Princess, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to make the crown. We made one out of peacock feathers last year but we can’t find it.
She sometimes even wears it to church.
The beauty of this crown is you can make it with whatever you would like. I love using different textures so we used faux fall leaves, foliage, berries and feathers. My favorite are the feathers. I think if we make it again some wheat might be cute.
Here are the supplies you will need to make one:
- Floral wire
- Foliage or items you would like in your crown
- Wire cutters or scissors
- Floral tape
- Ribbon to close the crown (optional)
The first thing you will need to do is to bend the wire in the shape of a crown. Create hooks on the end to make a closure or if your wire is not long enough (or if you like the look) you can knot a piece of ribbon to each end for closure. We decided to add the ribbon. I just used ribbon that I already had but chocolate velvet ribbon would have been perfect for this crown. If you create the hooks, then make sure it fits the head of the person you are making it for.
Using your wire cutters, cut wire roughly 3 inches in length. You will be using this to bind your bundles.
Now start gathering the items you want to use for your crown into little bundles. Take your bundle and secure it together with one 3 inch wire piece. With the end of it, secure it onto the crown wire.
Repeat this until you have the achieved the look you desire for your crown. You may also have to use the little wire strips to attach a portion of the top of the bundle to the previous bundle or crown to form it into the rounded shape.
We wanted this crown to be nice and lush so we made quite a few bundles.
Feel around for any poky wire sticking out and wrap the ends with the floral tape. We missed this step with our first go around, and Sophia kept getting poked.
When she’s not wearing it, we store it on the ladder I have in the living room. It adds a nice autumn touch to the room.
So cute, don’t you think?
It’s the perfect project to make with your little girlie girl.
