“Delicious Autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I was a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autums.” George Eliot
I love the fall, it’s my favorite. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago so I’m used to the colorful leaves, the cool, crisp air. I crave the cozy, the comfort of fall. The beginning of September arrives and I’m ready to get out my pumpkin-spiced candles and fall decorations, even though I live in Southern California where September often brings a surge in temperatures. We aren’t able yet to sit in front of a fire or get our vests and boots out so I have to do something. I tire easily of my décor so I take advantage of the first hint of the changing season to redecorate. I don’t like to overwhelm my house with seasonal décor but I do like to include a few subtle touches of fall (even when it is 100 degrees). Decorating for me is about creating a home for my family; a place that oozes coziness and warmth.
My kids love it when I redecorate as much as I do, and fall is one of their favorites too. All of the kids love it when I pull out this little guy.
Isn’t he cute? This is Olivia’s (Livie’s) favorite piece of fall décor. I bought him on sale at Pottery Barn last year. I have a candle inside that’s on a timer so it automatically comes on while we eat dinner. Last year, when Livie was two, whenever the candle would turn on she would exclaim with surprise and excitement “Hah!!! The owl’s on”. It was a highlight of her day; and her joy made it mine.
I thought I would share with ya’ll a little bit of our home mostly decorated for fall. Here is the fireplace mantle in the library.
This is our coffee table in the library. This is actually subtle with only the pinecones in the silver bowl and a few fall magazines (as opposed to my mantle where I can’t seem to hold back. :/)
Here is the living area using pillows to add splashes of color on my neutral couch. Don’t be fooled by the pictures. I was able to capture this picture in the brief and rare five minutes it remained clean. Usually we have books and blankets strewn all over the couch and army men lined up ALL over the floor.
Ok….Here’s how this room normally looks.
A basket full of books about Autumn and Thanksgiving is sitting on the side table ready to read.
The hutch is decorated in the dining area. Eventually I will get around to adding a fall centerpiece to our table.
So there you have it…. our house easing into fall. Have fun adding touches of fall to your homes…
